Decibel A - dB(A) - is the unit that is used particularly in transport to express the sensitivity of the human ear to various frequencies and intensities.
Sources of noise are not simply combined: two sources each emitting a sound pressure level of 80 dB at a given point generate a level of 83 dB (and not 160 dB). As a result, ten 80 dB noise sources are necessary to generate a sound pressure level of 90 dB.
