Bordeaux Airport played host to 304,080 passengers last month, an increase of 5.4% compared to February 2013. This is higher than the growth rate recorded by the airport for January, and compares very favourably with results for several major regional airports. Scheduled international flights carried nearly 100,000 passengers compared to over 200,000 for domestic traffic, but stimulated growth nonetheless with a rate of increase of 11.5% in February. A glance at low cost airlines shows traffic figures continued to rise last month, by 17.5%.
Scheduled domestic traffic was up 3.1%. Results for routes to Paris were positive: Charles de Gaulle +4.2% and Orly +4.4%. Results for cross-country lines were down, with the exception of Nice and Nantes which posted strong growth (up 9% and 37% respectively).
Scheduled international traffic boosted airport growth, registering an increase of 11.5%. There was success for Southern Europe – an important area of development for Bordeaux – with Madrid (Iberia) up 16.3%, Lisbon (TAP) +11.1%, Rome (HOP! and Ryanair) increasing by 26.8% and Venice (Volotea) +58.7%. The same trends apply to the rest of Europe: Charleroi (Ryanair) was up 44.8%, figures for Geneva (easyJet) rose by 18.3%, Dublin (Aer Lingus) posted growth of 5.2% and London Luton (easyJet) was up by 4.9%. Results for the Amsterdam hub (Air France/KLM) jumped by 19.4% while those for London Gatwick (British Airways and easyJet) experienced a 15.8% decline, directly correlated to the decrease in the supply of seats.
The low-cost business maintained its contribution to positive results for scheduled traffic with an increase of 17.5% and nearly 94,900 registered passengers.
