Bordeaux Airport processed 446,109 passengers in July 2012: 11.6% more than July 2011. Scheduled
flights are performing well: international routes were up 11%, while internal destinations soared by 15.5%. Budget options continue to enjoy astounding growth, up 38%.
International traffic rose by 11% to hit a total of 187,374 passengers, and this in spite of a 14.4% drop-off in holiday flights. North African destinations were up 4.2%, with Marrakesh posting an impressive 69.5% increase and the enhanced Bordeaux-Algiers connection growing by 47.3%. With Tunisair now offering more frequent services, Tunis also attracted more passengers this year.
This year, the most popular destinations for Bordeaux’s holiday-makers have been Spain and the Spanish islands, Italy and Portugal. Incoming visitors have come mainly from the UK, Switzerland and Ireland.
From our dense network of European lines, we have seen excellent results for services to Lisbon (Tap+easyJet), Barcelona (Air France+Vueling), Dublin (Aer Lingus), Madrid (Iberia+easyJet), Porto (Ryanair), and Rome (Air France+Ryanair).
Internal flights also saw passenger numbers jump by 15.5%. Paris was up 6.5%: Orly and the international hub of Charles de Gaulle attracted 76,013 and 57,893 passengers respectively. Now available with two different airlines, the southern cities of Marseille and Nice have seen a spectacular rise in passenger traffic: up 76% for the former (Air France and Ryanair) and 71% for the latter (Air France and easyJet). Corsican destinations Ajaccio and Bastia have also enjoyed great success since these routes were launched by Volotea at the start of June 2012, with 4793 passengers for Ajaccio and 3339 for Bastia in just two months.
These last two resorts are among the many new destinations now with direct connections to Bordeaux Airport (Ajaccio, Bastia, Ibiza, Malaga, Palermo, Venice and Toulon with Volotea; Lisbon and Nice with easyJet, Marseille with Ryanair, Palma with Vueling, Figari with Air France), contributing to our dynamic growth and boding well for a successful summer.
