Baïla Ibiza! This fascinating island is doubly attractive: as a sun-drenched Mediterranean island entirely dedicated to seaside pleasures and lazing around during the day, and as an eccentric nightlife paradise. Ibiza, the jewel of the Balearics, is also well known for its fine sandy beaches lapped by turquoise waters. Ibiza, Eivissa in Catalan, simply invites you twice over, to relax on a pleasant holiday and enjoy the party...
Sunny, warm Ibiza lies to the south of the island of Majorca, 80km east of Valencia, and is the third largest of the Balearic Islands by surface area. Founded in 654 by the Phoenicians, Ibiza has also been subject to the influences of the Greeks, Romans, Arabs and even the English. Today the island is Spanish and has joined in the tourist development of the Balearic Islands while retaining its soul. Attracted by its wild nature and tranquillity, hippies flooded to the island in the 60s in search of freedom in this little paradise. They were joined by many tourists who have helped to build the current reputation of Ibiza, with the largest open-air disco in the world. But the little island has preserved its traditional character and its wild beauty, thriving on this double identity.
Ibiza is white, just like the lime mortar which covers the island's houses. The town sparkles in the sun. From the highest point of the old town, the Baroque-styled cathedral of Santa Maria de las Nieves, you can take in the whole bay. In 1999, UNESCO designated the walls which date back to the 16th century, along with the cathedral, a World Heritage Site. In Ibiza you can always find a little beach in a cove or a rocky inlet for a swim. In all, fifty-six are listed and the furthest is never more than 40km away! There are walks to take you to the salt pans of Ses Salines, the port of San Antonio and its fortifications or towards the highest point of the island, Talaia de Sant Josep for an impressive view. Or, even better, you can discover Ibiza by boat. Guaranteed unforgettable scenery!
