365 days of summer - how lucky can you get? The largest of the Canary Islands is described by many travellers as paradise on Earth, with its white and black sandy beaches, coves, desert and lofty volcano, Teide, which peaks at 3,718 metres above sea level. Lying off the coast of Morocco, the Spanish island of Tenerife offers a mixture of cultures and unique flora and fauna. The most beautiful of the Canary Islands, Tenerife will not fail to captivate you.
In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, 115 kilometres west of the Moroccan coast, lies Tenerife, the largest of the archipelago of the Canaries, stretching over 81 x 45 kilometres. The island is of telluric origin and is dominated by Teide, Spain's highest point at 3,718 metres above sea level. Tenerife has been known since ancient times and was first populated by the Guanches, an African people who were invaded by the Spanish during the 15th century. The Canary Islands, and Tenerife in particular, have experienced major tourist development and are an autonomous community of Spain. The island welcomes nearly 5 million travellers each year to its two international airports. With a high-quality offering of hotels, one of the busiest cruise ports in Europe, a highly diverse range of landscapes and a tropical climate, Tenerife is served by almost all airline companies.
A land of contrasts and mild weather, the volcanic island of Tenerife combines mountains, sea, unusual forests, black sand beaches and red deserts. The main coastal resorts are located to the south of the island. Sailing, a day at sea to see the whales and dolphins, scuba diving... there is no shortage of activities on offer. You can also discover Teide National Park, deserts with a thousand cactuses, the breathtaking cliffs of Los Gigantes and La Orotava, perched on the side of a mountain at the centre of the island. Tenerife boasts two sites listed as World Heritage sites by UNESCO: the Teide volcano whose summit can be reached by cable car and the city of San Cristobal de La Laguna situated to the north, with its rich historic centre. Whether you opt for relaxation or hiking, cultural visits or leisure, you are sure to be captivated by the island of Tenerife, there's no doubt about it.
