+6.6% increase in February, in line with the 2014 trend.

17/03/2015

A very positive start to the year for Bordeaux Airport air traffic. Since the beginning of January, 38,000 more passengers have travelled through the airport. February saw an overall increase of 6.6%. International traffic is still driving growth with +20.9%, as is low-cost traffic with +15.7%. Domestic traffic is stagnating.

International traffic has continued to increase over the past few months. In February it reached +20.0%, with 120,000 passengers. The Amsterdam route (14,250 passengers per month) served by KLM and easyJet remains in first place in terms of growth: +55.9%.  London, served by three airline companies (British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair) to three different airports (Gatwick, Luton and Stansted), is the number one destination in terms of volume and has increased by 14% compared to February 2014, with 22,000 passengers. All major European cities are doing well, in particular: Rome +31.5%, Barcelona +21.4%, Basel +20.2% and Lisbon +16.2%.

Domestic traffic has stagnated at -0.4%, with 203,000 passengers in February. This stagnation is mainly due to the results of the flight to Paris-Orly (-2.4%). However, the Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle route is positive (+1.4%), as are flights to Lyon (HOP !/easyjet), Marseille (Air France) and Nice (HOP !/easyjet), which respectively saw an increase of +2.5%, +6.9% and +7.8%.
A good start to the year for Brest (Chalair Aviation), which has seen growth of +23.8% since January: encouraging figures with the prospect of new competition on this route with the arrival of Volotea in Brest, starting on 17th April.

Low-cost flights have greatly contributed to the overall increase in traffic: +15.7%. EasyJet’s development catapulted the airline company to a 54.7% increase. With 76,300 passengers in February, easyJet is the airport’s second most successful company after Air France and its 137,200 passengers.
