Volotea expands its presence in Bordeaux in 2025: introducing a new A320 Aircraft and 5 new routes
By stationing an additional aircraft at Bordeaux Airport, Volotea will create over thirty direct jobs and nearly 200 additional indirect jobs next year. By 2025, the airline will provide an unprecedented capacity of 1.2 million seats.
Volotea, the airline connecting Europe’s regional capitals, has unveiled an ambitious plan for 2025 from its Bordeaux base. On this occasion, Gilles Gosselin, Volotea’s Head of France, and Cyrielle Clément, Head of Route Development at Bordeaux Airport, introduced the new destinations and reaffirmed Volotea’s commitment to job creation and supporting local economic growth.
5 NEW DESTINATIONS AND A RECORD NETWORK OF 35 ROUTES FROM BORDEAUX
Volotea, operating in Bordeaux for 11 years, is set to offer 8 new destinations in 2025, expanding its network to 35 destinations across 8 countries (Spain, Algeria, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Morocco, and Malta). The airline is introducing 5 new routes to exciting European and French destinations:
These new destinations, already available on the Volotea website, complement the recent launches (announced last October) to Barcelona, Menorca, and Charleroi. They reaffirm Volotea's commitment to meeting the expectations of travelers in Gironde and enhancing the region's connectivity.
NEW AIRCRAFT AND NEW JOBS
Starting in May 2025, Volotea will welcome a new Airbus A320 to its Bordeaux base, strengthening its position as Bordeaux Airport's second-largest airline by capacity. With a fleet of three aircraft, the airline will offer a record annual capacity of 1.2 million seats—a +38% increase compared to this year and +71% compared to 2019. The addition of this new aircraft will also create 30 direct jobs, bringing the total to 110, alongside nearly 630 indirect jobs, highlighting Volotea's significant economic and social contribution to the region.
‘We are thrilled to announce the launch of five new routes and the arrival of a new Airbus A320. Volotea is not just expanding its network; we are cementing our leading role in Bordeaux by becoming the airline with the most destinations. Our commitment remains strong: connecting the people of Bordeaux to France and Europe while actively contributing to the local economy by creating dozens of direct and indirect jobs. Volotea is more than just an airline; we are a driving force for the region’s vitality and a trusted partner for passengers and the Gironde community. This growth would not have been possible without the unwavering support of Bordeaux Airport and its dedicated teams, with whom we have shared over a decade of trust and partnership. Together, we are proudly boosting the region’s profile and supporting its local dynamism,’ says Gilles Gosselin, Volotea’s Head of France.
‘The arrival of this new aircraft at our Bordeaux base is a significant milestone in Volotea's development at the airport, and we couldn't be more delighted! Together with this valued partner, we are working to offer destinations that truly meet the needs of our region. The five new destinations planned for 2025, bringing the total number of direct routes to 35, perfectly reflect this ambition. This represents a 38% increase in seat capacity compared to last year and a 71% increase compared to the reference year, 2019. Strengthening Volotea's presence in Bordeaux sends a powerful message about the economic and tourist vitality of our region,’ says Cyrielle Clément, Route Development Manager at Bordeaux Airport.
PROVEN OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE IN BORDEAUX
Since 2013 and the start of Volotea's operations, the airline has established itself as a key player in the region, not only through its range of destinations, but also through its impact on the local economic dynamic. With a punctuality rate (OTP15 - within 15 minutes) of 80% from the start of the year to November, and a flight completion rate of 99.3%, the airline continues to win over travellers, with 9 out of 10 customers recommending Volotea.
FRANCE, A STRATEGIC PILLAR OF THE VOLOTEA MODEL
The airline is consolidating its presence in France, its largest market, this year with a historic capacity of almost 7.5 million seats in 2024, which should increase by almost 8% between now and 2025 to exceed 8 million seats. The opening of new routes strengthens the connectivity of the territories where it is established and now reaches more than 270 routes in France (+100 since 2019), 50% of which are without competition.
Volotea represents 820 direct jobs and almost 5,000 indirect jobs in France.
