Air Transat will resume its direct flights between Bordeaux and Montreal from the 2nd of May 2024, increasing its offering by 15% in response to the rising demand for transatlantic connectivity. For over thirty years, the Canadian airline Air Transat has been facilitating travel for residents of Nouvelle-Aquitaine from Bordeaux Airport. This enduring partnership underscores the special relationship between our region and Quebec. In 2023, the direct Bordeaux-Montreal route transported 42,500 passengers, representing a 42% increase from the previous year.

In 2023, with 42,500 passengers carried, there was a 42% increase in passenger numbers compared to the previous year and a 35% rise from 2019 (the reference year before the health crisis). The 86% load factor on Air Transat's planes demonstrates that this direct service is meeting traveller demand. The balance between import and export is ideal, with a customer base evenly split: 50% Canadian and 50% from Nouvelle-Aquitaine, mainly travelling for family or leisure purposes.

Beyond Montreal, the most favoured destinations for those in Nouvelle-Aquitaine are Toronto and Quebec City, reachable with Air Transat through connecting flights in Montreal during the summer, with services up to four times a week:

  • Connections to Quebec City are available from the 17th of June to the 9th of October
  • Connections to Toronto run from the 2nd of May to the 26th of October

Enhanced Flight Programme in 2024:

In 2024, Air Transat will bolster its flight programme, offering up to six direct flights weekly between Bordeaux and Montreal, one more flight per week than in the previous year. This expansion adds 7,000 seats, a 15% increase in capacity. Two of these weekly flights will be on larger capacity aircraft (A330), thus accommodating more passengers without a rise in aircraft movement numbers. The remainder of the schedule will be serviced by the new generation A321 LR aircraft.
