The priority is to decarbonise infrastructure, operations and, more broadly, the entire mobility value chain. This recognition, led by Airports Council International (ACI), marks a strategic step change for the airport, which is committing to absolute reductions in its greenhouse gas emissions.
A paradigm shift: from measurement to absolute emissions reductions
Achieving ACA Level 4 represents a step change in the airport’s carbon management.
The accreditation recognises Bordeaux Airport’s commitments to reducing emissions. Going beyond the requirements of the previous levels, Level 4 requires the airport to define and implement a long-term strategy aimed at achieving absolute emissions reductions.
For the past four years, Bordeaux Airport has been implementing a multi-pronged strategy to accelerate the decarbonisation of its activities, first by improving the energy efficiency of its airport facilities and then by developing renewable energy systems, including geothermal and solar photovoltaic energy, for on-site consumption and to help meet local energy needs.
Bordeaux Aéroport : driving climate action
Beyond decarbonising its own infrastructure, Bordeaux Airport is reinforcing its role as a catalyst for transition across its entire ecosystem. ACA Level 4 requires airports to demonstrate active engagement with third parties.
Bordeaux Airport is introducing a Partnership Charter to mobilise businesses operating at the airport around the objective of reducing emissions. Already signed by ten partners representing the entire value chain, the Charter reflects the momentum generated by this collective commitment.

A globally recognised certification
Airport Carbon Accreditation, institutionally supported by ACI World, is the only global carbon management standard specifically designed for airports. The certification process is based on a robust methodology and independent verification, ensuring full transparency and the credibility of the results reported.
By achieving ACA Level 4, Bordeaux Airport is fully aligning itself with the global drive to decarbonise air transport.
