July, 13.5% growth as it rains traffic records at Bordeaux Airport

On 22 July, a record peak in traffic since the airport’s creation was reached, with 31,615 passengers. In addition, international traffic also set a new monthly high with 554,500 passengers, an increase of 21.7%.

In general, traffic in July was up by 13.5% compared with the same period in 2018, with the momentum in international traffic contributing significantly to this success.

The international flight network probably set the record for the number of international passengers for 2019, account taken for the time of year, with more than half a million travellers. This result is explained by the arrival of a large number of international travellers visiting Bordeaux and its region from destinations to which there were no or too few routes until now. In this respect, it is worth noting the excellent performances of flights from Bristol, Dusseldorf, Krakow, Basel and Geneva, Glasgow and Montreal, but also from new countries served such as Finland (Finnair, 2592 pax on the Helsinki route), Denmark (Ryanair, 4356 pax on the Copenhagen route) and Russia (Ural Airlines, 3676 passengers on the Moscow route).
Of course, destinations in the sun were also very popular among July holidaymakers, with the strong appeal of the Iberian Peninsula: Malaga (+92%), Porto (+89%), Lisbon (+44%), Alicante (+117%). Italian destinations followed the same trend of strong progression: Naples (+149%), Rome (+32%), Treviso (line opened by Ryanair at the beginning of the season) with 4519 passengers in July. Greece was also a popular choice, with Athens (+46%) and Rhodes (+37%). Traffic to the cities of the Maghreb, such as Marrakech (+65%), Fez (+141%), Essaouira (new line served by easyJet) continues to grow, with 2592 passengers.
Long-haul flights to Montreal progressed by more than 52%, thanks in particular to the arrival of Air Canada on 4 July and the continued growth of Air Transat, which between them operated the equivalent of a daily flight.

Domestic traffic increased very slightly by 0.4% despite the drop in traffic to Paris (-8%) and thanks to the healthy performance of transverse routes: Strasbourg (+80%), Brest (+66%), Marseille (+37%) and Lille (+16%).

Traffic for low-cost airlines continues to rise, accounting for more than 60% of July's total traffic and showing staggering growth of +22.6% to 525,099 passengers. easyJet alone handles half of this volume, but Volotea and Ryanair continue to grow rapidly, with the latter having more than doubled its traffic compared to July 2018.
