easyJet announces 4 new destinations for 2019 and the arrival of a 4th aircraft based in Bordeaux

easyJet is consolidating its position as the airline operating the highest number of routes from Bordeaux.

  • 4 new flights are to launch in 2019, bringing to 37 the number of destinations served by the airline.
  • 1 additional plane will join the three A320 aircraft already based at Bordeaux-Mérignac, leading to the creation of 36 direct jobs.
  • The airline company, which has transported 2 million passengers in 2018, holds 30% local market share.

easyJet arrived at Bordeaux Airport in 2006 and, having established a base here in March 2018, now boasts a market share of 30% and carries more than 2 million passengers a year. With its strategy for local investment, easyJet has become Bordeaux Airport’s top airline in network terms, and the orange airline aims to increase passenger capacity by 22%, representing a total of 3 million seats in 2019.

To further strengthen this position, a 4th aircraft is to join the orange fleet, expanding the network once again in 2019 by bringing 4 new destinations within reach of the residents of Nouvelle Aquitaine: Granada (exclusive route), Lanzarote (Canaries), Mahon (Balearic Islands) and Porto. City-break destinations with sea and sun included, ideal for couples and families.

As a key player in the region’s economy, easyJet is also boosting its appeal as a local employer, with the announcement of 36 permanent contracts (under French law) for cabin staff and pilots (captain, co-pilot, cabin manager, hostesses and stewards).
