Once again, international traffic saw exceptional growth, posting +24%. Domestic traffic fell by 8.2%. Excluding Paris flights, the airport’s growth on
domestic flights was 16%. The strong momentum of low-cost flights was confirmed with 23.6% growth and a monthly figure of 179,300 passengers. A 1.4% decrease in aircraft movements should be noted, with growth being driven by use of largercapacity planes.

International traffic hit a new record with 24% growth for the first month of the year, representing 171,500 passengers. This is 20,000 more travellers than in January 2017. These excellent results were driven by the major intercontinental hubs: Brussels (+68.6%), Madrid (+31.9%), Lisbon (+39.6%), Barcelona (+17.6%) and Amsterdam (+7.3%). 3 low-cost destinations enjoyed significant increases in traffic: Bristol (easyJet) +86.2%, Tenerife (Volotea) +51.7% and Basel/Mulhouse (easyJet) +36.5%. The Maghreb was highly successful with increases in traffic to Fez (+27.4%), Marrakech (+17.3%), Tunis (+16.1%) and Oran (+8.4%).

Domestic traffic amounted to 241,900 passengers, an 8.2% decrease due to the lower number of flights to and from Paris (-29.5%). The most significant growth for the month was +59.3% for flights to Nice operated by Hop! and easyJet. Bastia and Strasbourg with Hop! and Volotea also increased significantly (+37.4% and +31.5% respectively). For these 2 destinations, new flights operated by easyJet and ASL Airlines respectively will be added to the schedule this summer. XL Airways’ long-haul winter flight to Fort-de-France made a good debut on its first 3 dates.

Low-cost flights remained in high demand with around 180,000 monthly passengers, representing 23.6% growth. Volotea’s traffic doubled in comparison with January 2017. Ryanair progressed by 18%. EasyJet, with 2 months to go before the opening of its Bordeaux base, registered 8.5% growth and carried 108,200 passengers.
