In November 2017, international traffic continued to show good results at Bordeaux Airport and even reached a new record for monthly growth in 2017, with an increase of 26.3%. The first month in the Autumn-Winter season got off to a strong start, flying 404,000 monthly passengers which is equal to an overall increase of 3.2%. Since the beginning of 2017, traffic from Bordeaux Airport has risen by 8.2%, flying 5,772,000 passengers. The end of the year is looking very positive for Bordeaux, despite a dip of 10.3% in national traffic.

International traffic posted a monthly increase as yet unmatched in 2017 with a record of +26.3%, or 174,000 passengers. The major intercontinental hubs have shown very good results: Brussels (+60.6%), Lisbon (+51.8%), Madrid (+47.2%), Barcelona (+24.4%) and Rome Fiumicino (+22.2%). Southern destinations seem to have been particularly attractive with the arrival of cold weather in November: Tenerife (+77.9%), Tunis (+30.4%), Venice (+12.3%) and Marrakech (+6.9%). Northern Europe hasn’t lost its charm, however, and displayed substantial growth with flights to Prague (+46.2%), Bristol (+35.2%) and Berlin (+19.9%). Flights which are being offered for the first time in the winter season have shown some very promising scores: Dublin (3,965 passengers), Milan Bergamo (3,874 passengers), Budapest (2,308 passengers), Seville (2,622 passengers), Düsseldorf (1,372 passengers) and Malaga (1,335 passengers).

Domestic traffic recorded 22,600 passengers, down 10.3% due to the 25% decline on flights to Paris. Flights to Nice and Marseille with easyjet and Hop! continue to grow in popularity, with increases of 39.8% and 13.1% respectively in comparison with 2016. The connection to Strasbourg has shown very good results with a 16.7% increase, representing 11,100 passengers. Flights to Bastia in Corsica with Volotea ended the month on a high with a rise of 11.1%.

Low cost flight activity is still displaying a strong level of growth with an increase of 25.4% in traffic and 173,200 passengers in the month of November. Just a few days before announcing its new connections for the next season, easyjet posted growth of 11%, with 107,100 passengers.

Also worth noting this month is the announcement that Lufthansa will continue their development by adding 5 new flights to Frankfurt for the Summer season 2018, as well as the arrival of the airline company Swiss for a Bordeaux-Zurich connection, offering 12 flights each week. This development will provide access to the 2 international hubs of the Lufthansa group and its many connections.
