Volotea reports a record year in 2017 with +37% passengers flying from Bordeaux


Volotea is Bordeaux Airport’s top airline in terms of the number of destinations available

740,000 seats are proposed this year, +23% compared with 2017,
for a total of 29 destinations including 3 new ones

Press Release - Bordeaux, 31 January 2018: Volotea, the airline company for the regional capitals of Europe, which has been based in Bordeaux since 2012, has reported excellent results for 2017 and announces further growth in Bordeaux.

In 2017, Volotea transported 510,200 passengers to and from Bordeaux, a 37% increase compared with 2016. The airline operated 4,200 flights and recorded an occupancy rate of 84% on departures from Bordeaux, where it is the biggest airline in terms of the number of destinations offered.

In 2018, Volotea will operate 29 routes, of which 20 exclusively, and will propose more than 740,000 seats on flights from Bordeaux, a 23% increase compared with 2017. The number of actual flights will be in excess of 5,000. Volotea expects to reach a milestone this year in Bordeaux where it will have carried a total of 2 million passengers since it began operations here in 2012.

The airline is opening 3 new routes from Bordeaux this year:
- Madeira, from 5 April with a weekly flight every Thursday and a total of 6,000 seats
- Minorca, from 30 May with once- or twice-weekly flights (Mondays and Wednesdays or
Thursdays), approximately 9,000 seats
- Cagliari, from 31 May with a weekly flight on Thursdays, approximately 6,000 seats

Half a million passengers in 2017 is a considerable acknowledgement not only of Volotea’s dynamic but also of Bordeaux and Nouvelle Aquitaine residents’ adoption of the airline in the last 5 years.”

In 2018, Volotea will fly from Bordeaux to 29 destinations including 5 in France: Ajaccio, Bastia, Figari, Strasbourg and Toulon, 6 in Italy: Naples, Olbia, Palermo, Pisa, Venice and Cagliari, 9 in Spain: Alicante, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Madrid, Malaga, Minorca, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife, 2 in Croatia: Split and Dubrovnik, 2 in Greece: Corfu and Santorini, 1 in Germany: Munich, 2 in Portugal: Faro and Madeira, 1 in the Czech Republic: Prague, and Malta.

Volotea reached the milestone of a total 14 million passengers transported since its first flight in 2012, with more than 4.8 million in 2017.

In 2018, Volotea will be opening 58 new routes bringing its total number of routes to 293 and connecting 78 European regional capitals across 13 countries: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Albania, Portugal, Malta, Austria, Ireland and Luxembourg. The airline expects to carry between 5.7 and 6 million passengers in 2018.

Volotea currently operates via nine bases: Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias, Verona, Toulouse and Genoa, where the company is top airline for the number of routes available (with the exception of Toulouse). New bases in Athens, Bilbao and Marseilles have been announced and are to be opened by the end of the year.

Volotea employs 875 people and is to accompany its growth with the creation of 250 new posts in 2018.

This year, Volotea will operate its network with a 32-strong fleet made up of Boeing 717 and Airbus A319 aircraft. Both models are reputed for their reliability and comfort, offering seats that are 5% bigger than average.

The Airbus A319, the airline's preferred model for future growth, will enable the airline to increase passenger capacity by 20%, from 125 to 150 seats, and to carry passengers over longer distances.

Volotea won the title of best airline in France, Italy & Spain by the TripAdvisor 2017 Travellers Choice awards, in the “Regional and Low-cost Airlines” category.
