Flights departing from Bordeaux to Warsaw

The wonders of Warsaw! The Polish capital was almost entirely destroyed after the Second World War but has truly revealed itself over the years. Benefitting from the renewed dynamism that came with the opening of borders in the 90’s, Poland’s biggest city has become a major economic hub in Eastern Europe. Warsaw remains a city of contrasts, both architecturally and culturally. The impressive old town has been reconstructed to be identical to the original and is now classed as a UNESCO heritage site. It sits alongside buildings from the Soviet era, such as the Palace of Culture and Science or the extensive and modern business district, Srodmiescie. Steeped in culture and history, Warsaw maintains strong ties of friendship with France, and reveals the splendor of Eastern Europe in a perfect blend with the western lifestyle.

Point of reference

Warszawa in Polish literally means “belonging to Warsz”, Warsz being an aristocrat from the middle ages. The city’s history is interspersed with wars, alliances and invasions. It became the country’s capital in 1596 thanks to King Sigismond III Vasa, became part of the Kingdom of Prussia, was conquered by Napoleon and subsequently attached to Russia. Warsaw has not forgotten the events of the 20th Century, nor the horrifying fate of its Jewish ghetto. As soon as the 2nd World War conflict subsided, reconstruction began in the Soviet era. In the 1970’s, the old town was entirely reconstructed exactly like the original. The Solidarnosc movement, with the contribution of Pope Jean-Paul II, later announced the opening up of the city to the West. Sitting on the banks of the river Vistula, the city now has one of the highest levels of economic development in Europe. With two airports and high-quality public transport systems, the Polish capital now attracts a great number of investors and tourists, all in search of a taste of the unique atmosphere in this city which is home to over 3 million residents.
